Perhaps you were unawares, but Niagara Falls is no more – or so sayeth an article in the Louisville Weekly Journal dated March 3, 1841. I wonder what I was looking at just a few years back. Hmmmm.

The only way it would’ve temporarily stopped would’ve been if the falls had frozen over which does occasionally happen or during extreme dry periods from what I’ve read. October 1841, as reported in this news item, seems early for it to freeze over.
