So… what does this title mean?

The Georgetown X [1]We recently purchased a quite rare newspaper: “The Georgetown X [2]“, as Gregory’s Union List of American Newspapers notes only one issue of this title was recorded in any institution–this very issue now in our possession.  But the title seems very odd. What does it mean? The issue gives no hint as to what the “X” means; is it the Roman numeral “ten”? Feel free to offer your thoughts. We’d love to know.

There seems to be a surprising lack of newspaper reports about William Miller who was a well known minister who prophesied the end of the world for oct. 22, 1844. Haven’t been able to find anything about him although between 1840 and 1844 he was a very famous speaker and evangelist on the end times. He was head of the Millerites who later became the Seventh Day Adventists. Can you locate any newspaper accounts of him? He was primarily active in New England.

Sounds quite interesting. We are not aware of any reports, but if you ever find a data base which reveals newspaper titles and dates, please let us know as we have a large quantity of issues from this period.
